Mystical Garden, created for the Porvoo Lights Festival, was a large-scale light installation that spread across the facade of Borgå Gymnasium and the entire Lyseopuisto area. Capital AV was responsible for the technical implementation of the work, lighting, sound reproduction and system programming. The time-coded light show, spatial soundscape and a total of over a hundred lighting fixtures transformed the park into an immersive light and sound environment.
Porvoon Valot is one of Finland's most famous light festivals, transforming the historic Porvoo city space into a vast light art stage every year. The Mystical Garden, created for the 2026 festival, was a light installation created by Capital Creative's designer Max, which spread across the facade of Borgå Gymnasium and the entire Lyseopuisto area.
Capital AV was responsible for the technical implementation of the work and the construction of the entire audiovisual infrastructure. The goal was to create an environment where light, color and movement flow through the park, forming a whole that functions both as a scenic work viewed from a distance and as an immersive experience within the park.
The visual dramaturgy of the work was built around a time-coded light show . A combination of static lights and moving projectors were placed in the park, which were installed on truss towers, on the roofs of buildings and in connection with trees. The neon-inspired color scheme and gobo patterns creating flower-like shapes animate the vegetation and architecture of the park.
The facade of Borgå Gymnasium did not serve as a mere backdrop, but became an active part of the installation. The light seemed to radiate from the building outwards into the park, merging the architecture and the surrounding vegetation into a single visual whole.
The work also featured original music and a soundscape. A sound system placed in the park allowed the sound elements to move from speaker to speaker, increasing the immersiveness of the experience and guiding the audience's movement within the installation.
The technical implementation also developed a new tree hanging solution , which allowed the luminaires to be safely attached at different heights without damaging the tree structures.
The Mystical Garden attracted a large audience and attracted visitors to spend more time in the park than usual. The opportunity to move around amidst the light and sound made the experience particularly impressive for festival-goers of all ages.
Fun fact: The construction was completed on Runeberg Day, so we had to enjoy locally baked Runeberg tarts. There were 20 of them on the day of construction.
