Chapters, created for the LUX Helsinki Light Festival, was a large-scale projection mapping installation on the facade of a historic building in Hietalahti Square. Capital AV was responsible for the technical implementation, projection system, laser integration and sound reproduction. Using eight high-power projectors and laser mapping technology, the building was transformed into a living visual story.
LUX Helsinki is an internationally renowned light festival that transforms the city center of Helsinki into an open-air light art stage during the winter. Chapters, created for the 2026 festival, utilized the facade of a historic building located in Hietalahti Market Square as a large projection mapping surface.
The design of the work began almost three years before its implementation, which enabled a technically and artistically ambitious whole.
Capital AV was responsible for the technical implementation of the work, including the projection system, sound, laser integration, and systems management.
The building's facade was brought to life using eight Barco UDX-4K32 laser-based projectors , which were combined to form one large image surface that covered the entire facade.
The projection system was designed precisely according to the architecture of the building. An accurate 3D model of the building created during the design phase allowed the visual content to be perfectly aligned with the details of the facade.
The work also utilized laser mapping technology , where physical lasers drew the same lines and shapes as the video projections, creating moments where the digital image and the physical laser merged seamlessly.
The sound system was placed in projection towers, allowing the work's soundtrack to fill the entire square and reinforce the visual dramaturgy.
Chapters quickly became one of the festival's most popular works, and each performance drew a large audience to Hietalahti Market Square.
