The Bang On A Can concert, which was part of the Helsinki Festival, was realized at the Dance House with the international band's own designers. Capital AV was responsible for the stage technology, lighting, video projections and sound technology of the event in collaboration with the Dance House. The visual appearance of the concert was built on projected video surfaces and precisely programmed lighting.
Bang On A Can is an internationally renowned contemporary music collective that performed as part of the Helsinki Festival program at the Dance House. The concert combined live music, video art, and stage lighting into one whole.
Capital AV implemented the technical aspects of the concert in collaboration with Tanssin Talo . A visual environment was built on the stage using video projections: video projectors and screens were installed behind the stage, onto which the band's own video operator played the visuals designed for the concert.
The lighting was implemented based on the instructions of the band's lighting designer. Capital AV programmed the lighting situations for the performance in advance so that the lighting would support the dynamics of the music and the visual appearance of the video.
The sound system was built to support the band's own mixer. We provided the concert with a sound system and microphones for a wide range of instruments and the choir, which enabled a precisely balanced and clear sound image in the hall.
The concert used Martin MAC Aura Raven fixtures from Capital AV for the first time, which received special praise from the band's English lighting designer for their light output and color rendering.
During the concert preparations, a surprising situation was also encountered when the grand piano pedal broke during rehearsals just before the audience was allowed in. Capital AV’s project manager Kimmo quickly repaired the pedal before the concert began and was on standby behind the stage curtains in case the problem reoccurred during the performance. The situation is a good example of how the production team takes care of the success of the event, even in technical details that are not directly related to the equipment supplied.
The Bang On A Can concert became one of the most impressive performances of the Helsinki Festival and brought a unique combination of music, light and video to the stage of the Dance House.
